It's been quite a year for Simi Crowns. From his appearance at the State Faces of 2014 launch in January through two memorable Electric Picnic performances, the release of his début single 'Pressure' and video première on Nialler9, radio support from the likes of Dan Hegarty, BBC Across The Line, The Mix Up on Today FM (for whom he recorded a live session), 98FM, Spin 103.8 Southwest, 8Radio, RTE Pulse and TXFM, plus plaudit winning supports to Pusha T, Kid Ink and Mos Def, the Lagos born Dublin raised rapper has been the talk of the Irish music scene.
This first chapter will come to a close in December with his first Dublin headline show. Backed by his live band (DJ D.O.G., bassist Michael Akano and drummer Princess Siwela) he creates a sound that draws on a world of influences and a performance style that sets him apart.
The Opium Rooms gig will be more than just another live show however, showcasing a creative culture that is set to explode in Ireland in 2015. Support comes from ProFound - a rapper, poet, dancer and actor (soon to be seen in John Carney's Sing Street movie) who is another bold new voice on the domestic landscape. In addition, the night will feature the Deuces All Stars Company hip-hop dancers, visuals and a graffiti art exhibition - all bringing together one of the most exciting scenes in the country right now
