The very first encounter with Patricha Draeger was like planting the seeds, forming a harmonious group of musicians, despite the apparent differences. She is one of the world’s renowned French accordion players and was chosen by the Swiss embassy in Cairo as the keynote performer in a musical concert held at the Egyptian Rail way Museum on January 17, 2016. The concert was attended by the Swiss Ambassador to Cairo and the Egyptian Minister of Transport. The concert represented the birth of a Musical project named “ALA FIKRAH” or (By the way). The reason behind this name choice is interesting. Besides being the most frequently used way to attract the attention of someone in a casual manner, which is basically what we are trying to do here, it was the first word that Patricia has memorized and used all the time while she was here.
The project continued to grow rapidly with a working coherent team of musicians was formed, holding a variety of concerts in Cairo at different venues and for different occasions, from art exhibition events to public or privately organized concerts.
The band presents selected pieces of world music for a number of famous composers. The group is also keen on making the selections from a variety of countries and cultures worldwide, including pieces from Turkey, Bulgaria, Argentina, Switzerland, and Egypt.
