The Calamities are a local band that emerged from the ruins of several Wollongong and Sydney rock bands of the 80’s and 90’s. They write much of their own material, based on various life experiences (living in a Datsun 180b, the life of fly in- fly out worker, or avoiding work altogether) as well as numerous covers, from songs about gay pirates, to one about the untimely demise of Ned Kelly. The Calamities are Stuart Alexander and Kylie Gass, as well as a host of other musicians who help out when available. They performed to great acclaim at the latest Illawarra Folk Festival.
