Party: FREEZE! TIM KEY + TOM BASDEN | HENRY WIDDICOMBE | 3RD FEBRUARY

FREEZE! comes to Cardiff for the first time (because Tim Key and Tom Basden have some work they’re doing up there that week). FREEZE! is a weak effort: comedy and singing mixed with poetry and some housework/films. Both guys will be miked up and they’ll try and make it stretch to an hour. Themes: fairies, rowing, adverts and witness protection.

In the first half Henry Widdicombe will give a second Cardiff run out for the show he’s currently developing, Plain Facts for the Old and Young.

Plain Facts for the Old and Young

Henry Widdicombe returns to comedy after a 4 year absence because he’s decided he’s got something he should say about cereal. An homage to the humble processed grain this potentially hour long show will probably be funny. Funded by the Arts Council of Wales you can rest easy in your seat safe in the knowledge that what you are watching has been designated as art, so even if you don’t enjoy it you can chalk the experience up as character building. Directed by Tom Parry, with animations by Lauren Orme and Jordan Brookes. Multimedia? Too right mate.

Here are some quotes from quite some time ago, so who knows if he’s still got it. And by it, we mean a low energy demeanour delivering what are essentially facts wrapped up as humour.

A work-in-development.

“The real star was Henry Widdicombe” – Three Weeks reviewing South by South Wales at Edinburgh Festival 2008

“Henry Widdicombe blew the crowd away with his deadpan style and highly original approach” – Swansea Evening Post

“A wonderful eye for detail and a subtlety of creative expression that is joyous” – Rhod Gilbert
