Jurassic 5 – Chali 2na, Akil, Zaakir, Mark 7even, Cut Chemist, and DJ Nu-Mark – have announced Bluesfest sideshows in Newcastle

Jurassic 5 brought their reunion tour to Australia earlier this year playing their first dates here since 2007. The group had called it a day following an Australian tour promoting their fourth album Feedback to play at last year’s Coachella festival and tour American and Europe.

The band’s tour in March featured all their classics plus a novelty DJ interlude featuring a cover of ‘Smoke on the Water’ played on a turntable that Cut Chemist has frankensteined into a guitar, and Nu-Mark’s beat pad vest made of old records. “Sure it’s ridiculous and almost corny but a J5 show isn’t serious,” FL reported. “It’s just good old fashioned, entertainment … a dose of pure nostalgia.” Since that tour the group has released their first new single in eight years – the Heavy-D produced ‘The Way We Do It’ – which is built around a sample of The White Stripes’ ‘My Doorbell’.

John Mayall, Keb’ Mo’, Dave Alvin, Rebelution and Serena Ryder have also announced Bluesfest sideshows today joining the likes of The Black Keys, George Clinton, Gary Clark, Frank Turner and Band of Skulls on the sideshow schedule.
