The Internationally renowned Susana Montero will be delivering a three hour, intensive salsa workshop on Saturday the 6th of May at Sheffield Tapton Hall!
Susana is a star of the Salsa world and will be flying from Madrid to deliver this event! She is three times British Salsa Champion, and was also awarded Best Dance Performer and Teacher in the UK several times in the last fifteen years. She has won International awards for her contribution to the Latin Dance and Culture in the USA. Susana is one of the choreographers of the BBC’s 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'Strictly Come Dancing.' She has worked on numerous TV, film and radio appearances and featured as the Associate Choreographer and actress in the hit movie, Cuban Fury, starring Nick Frost, Olivia Colman, Ian McShane, Rashida Jones and Chris O'Dowd.
This tailored workshop focuses on partnerwork and is designed to help develop your style and musicality in social dance. It is aimed at improver to intermediate level dancers.The afternoon will consist of three sections as detailed below.
FORMAT ON THE DAY:
PART 1 (12:00 till 1:00 pm)
- Introduction
- Warm up
- Explanation of different styles in Salsa and styling
PART 2 (1:00 till 2:00 pm)
- Focusing on a shines combination which will be applied later on to the partner-work routine.
- Co ordination of body movement and steps with the music.
- Description of men/ladies styling during the shines’ execution.
PART 3 (2:00 till 3:00 pm)
- Partner-work combination.
- Musical interpretation, improvisation and creativity.

Susana Montero Biography:
Susana Montero is established as one of the premier teachers, dancers & choreographers in the UK. Recently moved back to Spain and she is currently working as Artistic Director of the Dance Council in Madrid. Susana is one of the choreographers of the BBC’s 'So You Think You Can Dance' and 'Strictly Come Dancing.'
Susana was born & raised in Madrid, Spain, and discovered a passion for ballet and also flamenco when she started dancing aged five. She performed for the Silvia Yague Ballet Dance Company and The Spanish National Ballet till she moved to London in 1995. At the age of sixteen, Susana turned her hand to contemporary, jazz & Afro-Cuban dance. She was introduced to salsa in London in 1995.
She is three times British Salsa Champion, and was also awarded Best Dance Performer and Teacher in the UK several times in the last fifteen years. She has also won International awards for her contribution to the Latin Dance and Culture in Los Angeles, USA.
In 1999 she debuted in the Princess Diana Memorial Concert at the Royal Albert Hall.She has done numerous TV, radio, newspaper & magazine interviews & appearances including Co-Choreographer & dancer for the Electro/Indie/Pop band Eskimo’s ‘Japanese Girl’ music video, Living TV’s “Diet on the Dance Show as a teacher/choreographer, Appearance alongside Eddie Palmieri,Oscar de Leon, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico & the New Swing Sextet, Performance in the “Salsation” and The Magic of Salsa both Broadway Musical directed by Maria Torres. Interview for the ‘Psychology of Dance’ programme for the BBC’s Radio 4, ‘Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’ for Channel 4 television, Interview on the ‘Esther’ programme on Channel 4, hosted by Esther Rantzen, Interview for GMTV ‘Good Morning’ programme, Interview for Miami TV, Indian TV and C9 Spain TV.
She has a PhD in Psychology. She has also worked as a children’s dance teacher for 10 years including Eton College in Windsor. She is also a member of the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance) where she is currently developing the Salsa examination for teachers. Susana is also one of the co-founder of one of the largest Latin Dance School in London, The Latin Dance Academy llp. She teaches regularly at congresses in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and North & South America.
When you watch Susana in action you see that she is the product of dancing & training hard for over 20 years, many of these years as a professional. She has a wealth of knowledge in several forms of dance, none of them done in half measures. This gives her a great understanding of body mechanics, an essential requirement for all teachers & dancers.
