Whelans continues its 25th Anniversary celebrations with a Christmas Special on Dec 2nd. Featuring two great acts playing full sets, the night will showcase two diverse but vital Irish bands.

Cathy Davey has released 3 albums to date: 2004’s Something Ilk, 2007’s Tales Of Silversleeve and 2010’s The Nameless the latter two albums going straight to Number 1 whilst also receiving nominations for both the Meteor and and Choice Music Prize Album of The Year. Cathy also won Best Irish Female at 2008’s Meteor’s. Cathy’s hit singles include Little Red, Reuben, Moving and Sing For Your Supper.

Cathy is currently finishing off her latest studio album which is due for release in early 2015. In 2012 Cathy sold out a 3 week residency in Whelans. She has not played a full-headline show in Dublin for over two years.

We Cut Corners write short songs on drums and guitar, eschewing the blues-rock stylings beloved of many two-pieces, in favour of lyrically dextrous, harmony-rich, rock/pop.

We Cut Corners sophomore offering, 'Think Nothing', was released in May 2014 to universal praise. The album was recorded with Tommy McGloughlin (Villagers, Soak, Foy Vance) and mixed by Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode, Elbow, The Horrors). The album features string arrangements by award-winning, acclaimed Irish classical composer, John Buckley.

‘Think Nothing’ has not only garnered significant critical acclaim, but also supporters at radio in the UK including Phil Taggart (Radio 1), Rigsy, (BBC Northern Ireland), Gary Crowley (BBC Radio London) Simon Kennedy (XFM) & Frank Skinner (Absolute Radio).

Duignan and Ó Breacháin have created their own brand of concise, articulate, melodic song writing and a unique sound, central to which are their distinctive vocal harmonies. This, coupled with a sophisticated lyrical style, spat with lucid precision and a subtle layer of dark humour, is principal to their success. The new album continues to demonstrate their musical poise and eloquence.
